Creating an American Country Home
It has been some time since I have written about the total renovation of our country home. Essentially, we started with a solid structure, but the décor did not reflect the traditional American country home aesthetic we were seeking. This was the first home that we have owned that includes a pool in the yard. We therefore wanted to update the existing shower near our rear door, knowing that we would, and did, eventually add a fully enclosed outdoor vintage inspired “spa” shower with full plumbing and a changing room.
Inspiration
To carry the American Country style of the house, I found a look on HOUZZ.COM that was traditional, yet interesting.
Much visualization was needed to transform the room. A custom vanity, high-end nickel accessories with matching lighting and plumbing, multiple coats of paint, tile flooring, marble, subway tile, and authentic antique equestrian French wall art synchronized obscure décor to that of a traditional American Country home.

My advice is that wise investments for your home include areas that guests visit, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. Additionally, permanent details including high end hardware, light fixtures, and stone finishes as well as hospitality touches like monogrammed hand towels and fresh flowers create a big impression. Don't be afraid to include a special piece of art. Our pool bath includes a hand etching I collected in France twenty years ago that captures a woman hacking her horse across a country field.
