Last month was my first visit to Lexington, Kentucky and I immediately fell in love with this city due to an abundance of Southern hospitality, endless horse farms and gorgeous landscape. It would be difficult not to appreciate the tradition that is instilled in the community from both Thoroughbred racing and all things horses. I wanted to bring back something special to remember this trip and I did not need to look far. Located in the Kentucky Horse Park’s permanent vendor row is a very special store called PonyUP! Kentucky.
Founded by Rallie McAllister, PonyUP! Kentucky creates handbags that are handmade by craftsman in the United States and 100% of the profits go to retired and rescued horses in need. The basic design of the bag truly captures the equestrian culture, as the shoulder straps are crafted from genuine leather horse halters complete with brass fittings, swivel snaps and a brass nameplate. They are also interchangeable so that they may be used on multiple bags made by the company.
I started off by choosing my actual purse amidst an ample amount of styles and limited edition fabrics. Next, I hand selected the leather arm strap and I wrote down my name on a piece of paper for the on-site engraver. Ten minutes later I left with a new handbag, complete with a personalized brass tag affixed to it! An added bonus was that while I was waiting, I met the craftswoman that actually sews each bag.
You don’t have to visit Lexington to purchase a PonyUP!Kentucky purse and support the cause of horses in need. For more information and to order, visit the ONLINE STORE.
