{Featured Artisan: Jennifer Brandon}
Jennifer Brandon epitomizes why our mission is “ to celebrate equestrian inspired artisans”. From the moment I first saw a piece of her work, I was encapsulated into a different time and place that she was translating and I was excited to share her gift with others. Passionate and committed artisans have a positive effect in the lives of others as they have an innate ability to positively move us emotionally. This is a part of their craft I admire and wish to encourage and advocate.
Jennifer is one of the most brilliant equestrian artists I have ever discovered. The spirit and emotion of each animal and/or person is succinctly conveyed across the canvas. Meticulous about accuracy, I appreciate the details she carefully documents of each horse and rider. As I studied one piece, I could actually feel the twist in my back that a rider experiences when tightly turning a horse over a fence and also the connection and focus required to progress to the next obstacle. The strokes of Jennifer’s brush deliver me on a journey to her vivid interpretation of a moment in time.
It is Jennifer’s own words that best convey her unique process of creating a piece as well as her lifelong connection with horses:
The journey the piece takes with just me, and the story that evolves on canvas in front of me, is a very personal experience. It's anything but mass-produced. Each painting tells a story of a special moment, a feeling, a movement. The process of painting these special moments is a personal, and special experience. Each one carries with it a unique story. I enjoy sharing that experience, and the outcome with fellow art and horse lovers. I love marrying my experience of the power and prestige of the horse with the creative possibilities of paint. I love how the application of paint can expose the energy and movement of the horse, or how it can tell a story of a beautiful moment.
I offer custom horse paintings, and love hearing other's stories of their beloved animals. I love that through different techniques paint can describe the bold magnificent energy of the horse and rider, accentuating those muscles and that movement that cannot be stilled. Yet, with that same paint, a different application can express a moment of thoughtful reminiscence, a girl’s first debut on her pony (See painting, "Her Big Debut) or a special moment between the equestrian and her horse.
Having grown up a horse girl, I have a deep love and respect for these fabulous creatures. As a child I'd spend hours tending my horse, studying her structure, and sketching her form. Now, I'm blessed to spend my days painting these gorgeous animals.
I highly encourage you to visit the FACEBOOK FAN PAGE of her studio to verify the accuracy of her words stated above, which is apparent in her interaction with the public and the documentation of her work over time. She also uses the page to share the artistic process from the initial sketch through naming each piece. You can’t help but enjoy the enthusiasm for her gift that she shares with others.
