This week I tackled the dreaded office “fall cleaning”, which consists of finding a proper home for every piece of stray paper that has accrued over the summer. I cannot stand clutter, so in years past this day used to look a ticker tape parade exploded around my desk. Since I started my own company, though, I have made a concerted effort move as much information as I can to electronic formats.
Financials and stray business cards used to slightly pile up, but it was my creative inspiration and recipe files that were the largest piles. I would tear pieces out of magazines or print them off from the web, and unless they were being used, they would collect until I finally would take a few hours to organize them into the proper portfolio or binder.
My office... I am more productive when everything is in its place...at least at the start of the day!
This year, though, the creative files were almost totally eliminated thanks to two social networking sites that store my “clippings.” I know there are many more in the cyber universe, but for simplicity I use HOUZZ for most home décor inspiration and Pinterest for everything else. With over 100 M users from around the world and a simple to use format, anyone online has access to endless resources of current and past information with an easy to use organizing component to store your finds.
Below you will find our favorite boards that we regularly follow due to the quantity and quality of information aggregated by the "pinners", which include PegaseBuzz (France), Food52 (U.S.) and Oughton Limited (U.S.). Thanks in part to these accounts, the number of binders and portfolios has been dramatically cut down in my office and I can easily locate the information I previously clipped for future use.
Salut!
