When I invest in garments, I always purchase items that both fit my body type and my personal style. While I study trends in glossy publications like Vogue or trade magazines like Women’s Wear Daily, I would much rather have a piece that has the wear withal to last multiple seasons. A few years ago, Monica Ward at Equ Lifestyle Boutique fitted me for my first few pieces of Cavalleria Toscana. I appreciated the narrow cuts while also the fashion forward designs that still held a hint of elegant equestrian tradition.
As you can see from the various haircuts in my photos above, the brand has been in my wardrobe for quite a while. These styles seamlessly transition from “street to stable” and I appreciate the double duty these garments provide. I adore the white shirts because they are tailored and look fabulous with jeans when going out, but allow for enough movement when riding. I recently wore my Cavalleria Toscana scarf at a mainstream fashion photo shoot in Manhattan because the studio was so cold from the air conditioning! I also can’t say enough great things about the casual outerwear pieces, including the bomber jacket and vest. They are totally functional when riding, but perfectly fit my street style.
In the last few years, the equestrian apparel manufacturers have done a wonderful job inventing designs that include technical specifications, but are also fashionable enough to translate to the real world. This is similar to the trend that has catapulted “studio” designs, particularly in yoga and ballet barre classes. My advice is to find labels that fit both your body type and fashion preferences and take advantage of their ability to seamlessly take you from the street to the stable!
Salut!
