A hands-on designer, Ms. Zadeh is extremely discriminating in the production of her designs. She works closely with skilled artisans and master jewelry makers to build each piece. Additionally she is recognized for using atypical items and social responsibility in sourcing only quality materials for each piece including parachute cord and Asian Water Buffalo horns.
Zadeh's use of Asian Water Buffalo horns is a special story. Influenced by her upbringing in France, she admired the bohemian chic “look” of elephant hair bracelets. Several years later, a fortuitous meeting with a Congolese artisan introduced her to the horns of the Asian Water Buffalo as well as the extensive handwork necessary to achieve a similar look to that of the French bracelets she remembered. The Asian Buffalo is used primarily as a popular source of protein, similar to the beef cow in America, but its horns are mainly discarded. Recognizing the opportunity to further the sustainability of this animal, the carved horns are now a cherished material integrated into many Zadeh NY pieces. This modernist philosphy of continious evolution using available resources is a core value across the company and one that makes owning a design from Ms. Zadeh even that much more significant.
