The term equitation is applied across all riding disciplines and captures the fundamentals that allow a rider to assist their horse to perform in harmony at a given skill. Part of the mission of Street to Stable is to connect a community of equestrian enthusiasts that respect authentic horsemen. #EQMatters is a new column that will be curated by junior editor, McKenna Norris, as she hones her forward seat riding skills across the hunter, jumper and equitation rings during her last year as a junior rider and also begins to build the foundation of her riding career as an adult.
McKenna and her family have worked in conjunction with trainer, Julie Young of Silver Bay Stables, to create a road map to plan the development of her equestrian pursuits over the next several years. McKenna’s immediate goals include qualifying and competing at all of the indoor Big Eq Finals and the USHJA West Coast Junior Hunter Finals. Long term, McKenna would like to market quality show horses as a viable business. #EQMatters is a first hand account of McKenna’s experiences as she introduces “open” horses to the junior hunter ring, travels to Europe to look for re-sale prospects, incorporates jumper classes to school for her primary divisions and much more.
